Will's take
Ball screws for under $1,000 from a company with a real track record. Hard to argue with.
Onefinity built its name on ball screws and fat hardened-steel rails, and the Apprentice brings that recipe down to a price that used to buy you belts. It’s made in Canada, open front and back for tiling longer boards, and has a two-year warranty.
Two things to know. The RTS-1 controller isn’t GRBL, so Easel and other GRBL senders won’t work — you’re in RealTime CNC’s world. And the bed is modest at about 16 inches square. For small signs and boxes, though, it’s excellent value.

What I like
- Ball screws at a starter price
- Open front and back for longer stock
- Made in Canada, 2-year warranty
What I'd watch for
- Not GRBL — limits your software choices
- Open-loop motors
- Router not included
